Hi guys i'm a newbie.

This relates to my grandads car a 2.3 galaxy 1997.

He has a few problems that we would like to solve so any input is much appreciated:

1, Car starts and runs fine but when you turn the ignition off it keeps running and you have to stall the car then disconnect the battery to get the ignition lights off??

He thinks (but not sure) the car has a safety function where it will continue to run the engine if it has over heated to cool it down before shutting off, is this correct? How can we remedy it? does it need a new temp sensor somewhere or is there possible a wiring issue somewhere??

2, The central locking doesn't seem to operate from the divers door. You can lock the car but then it unlocks all doors again. A bit of a pain as you have to manually lock all doors from the internal handle.

3, Recently the clautch slave cylinder was replaced, bleed etc. The clutch works but engages fairly low and the pedal is really soft with no real feel. Could the pressure plate need replacing as well?

Thanks for taking the time to read and hopefully some of you have had experience with these problems before.

Thanks

Matt.

Hi and welcome to the site Mbateman

you say you disconnect the battery to extinguish lights what happens when you reconnect, are they still on or does it seem back to normal.

It does sound more like a dodgy ignition switch?

There is a device called the run on pump this continues to run after engine is turned off usually about 5 to 10 mins to circulate the coolant.

The central locking problem can be the wiring in the drivers door to door pillar, the constant opening closing of the drivers door breaks the wiring this is a common problem, also the central locking relay is under the passenger seat check to make sure its dry under there this is another common problem.

The clutch sounds like you have air in the system.

Hi,

Yeah all the ignition lights stay off after the battery is re-connected. Any ideas where i can get a new ignition switch? Or am i best off going to the breakers or a dealer?

I'll check out the door wiring. Spent some time reading through loads of old topics on here and found loads about central locking and windows problems being caused by the wires through the door.

Do clutches normally need bleeding with a pressure bleeder?

Thanks for your response, much appreciated. :(

hi again

Just to double check on that ign switch it may be worth unpluging it instead of the battery just incase power relay is stuck in.

Get someone to pump the pedal up and down a few times quickly then hold it down, then crack open the bleed nipple and close it before lifting off clutch pedal dont forget to top up reservoir.

sounds like youve got a nice soft pedal, with clutch in does it slide in gear ie no crunching and pull away smooth if so dont worry my left leg is like he man as mines that heavy so your lucky
